Suitable Locations
Kestrel boxes can be installed in trees and on agricultural buildings.
Choose a quiet location where Kestrels can benefit from open surroundings and clear flight access to and from the nest box.
Open countryside, rough grassland and field margins can provide valuable hunting opportunities where small mammals are present.
If you are unsure whether your location is suitable before purchasing, please contact us — we are only a phone call away.
Positioning Height
A height of around 12–14ft (3.5–4 metres) is often suitable where installation is safe and practical.
Suitable habitat and surrounding location are usually more important than achieving an exact height.
Our Nest Box Design
Our Kestrel nest box has been developed through practical use and observation to provide a sheltered and spacious nest site.
The extended side panels and overhanging roof are designed to help reduce direct exposure to wind and rain entering the open-front design. The open front provides easy access and allows growing Kestrels to observe and become familiar with their surroundings before fledging.
Contents when Delivered
Your Kestrel nest box is supplied fully assembled and includes fixings and installation guidance.
Before use, add approximately 2″ (50mm) of woodshavings to the solid floor to allow a natural nest scrape to form. Woodshavings are widely available and are not included with the nest box.
The detachable roof is secured with lynch pins and can be removed to allow access for future cleaning when required.
