Introducing Our ECO Range
Since 2016, the Barn Owl Centre has produced a range of ECO-friendly owl nest boxes using recycled Stokbord sheets. These boxes are lightweight, durable, and designed to provide safe, long-lasting nesting sites for owls across the UK countryside.
Built for the British Climate
Designed to withstand the UK’s weather, our ECO owl nest boxes provide insulation and protection during extreme heat, cold, wind, and rain.
Lightweight & Easy to Install
Made from recycled Stokbord, these boxes are significantly lighter than traditional timber alternatives, making installation safer and more manageable on farms and estates.
Eco-Friendly & Wildlife Safe
Stokbord is chemical-free, non-toxic, recyclable, and safe for wildlife — making it a responsible choice for conservation and land stewardship.
Maintenance-Free Longevity
Unlike timber boxes, Stokbord does not rot, warp, or require staining or chemical treatments. Install once and rely on years of dependable performance.
Thoughtful, Practical Design
Each box includes a timber fixing bracket, ECO inspection hatch, and detachable roof for safe inspection. A porch system shields the entrance from driving wind and rain.
Barn owls prefer quiet locations with open countryside nearby for hunting. Suitable installation sites include:
For best results, choose a location away from busy roads and regular disturbance, with rough grassland nearby to support hunting.
Will barn owls use a nest box?
Where suitable habitat exists and disturbance is low, barn owls readily adopt well-positioned nest boxes.
How long does it take for a box to be used?
Some boxes are occupied within months, while others may take a few seasons. Patience is important as owls establish territories over time.
Do owl boxes require maintenance?
ECO boxes are designed for longevity and minimal maintenance. Occasional inspection is sufficient.
