The oldest Barn Owl alive?
POSSIBLY THE OLDEST LIVING BARN OWL IN THE UK?
Barny the Barn Owl from 17th May 2016 as reached an amazing age of 30 years!!
Barny's recorded hatch date is clarified on an old metal DOE leg ring, which she wears plus her age is recorded on a legal government document known as an Article 10 Certificate.
If the date of hatching is correct we can be very proud to say that she could be the oldest living captive bred Barn Owl in the UK? If this is true then the predicted 20 to 25 year life span of a captive bred Barn Owl has been clearly beaten.
Even though she is very old, we can confirm that she is also very fit & in amazing health, she also enjoys being involved in Owl Flying Experiences & photography days with our pre-booked visitors as this show them she is never to old to work, fingers are always crossed that she will live on for many years to come enjoying life to the full!
If anyone knows of a captive bred Barn Owl or knows of a wild Barn Owl that is of the same age or even older then please give the Centre a call, it would be a real pleasure to hear from you.
