Durable ECO Tawny Owl Nest Box for Long-Term Conservation

At the start of May 2026, we made a few changes to our Tawny Owl Box design, changes being the entrance porch and added platform, which is the same as our Barn owl Box (ECO-T), this change can be seen in the main image.

This recycled and recyclable ECO Tawny Owl nest box is built from field-tested Stokbord — a strong, weather-resistant material designed to outlast traditional plywood boxes in the British climate. It provides a safe, long-lasting nesting and roosting site with excellent protection during extreme heat.

Tawny Owls are a woodland species and are best supported in woodland edges, mature trees, shelterbelts and mixed farmland with established tree cover.

Suitable for internal and external locations including trees, sheltered woodland edges, barns, agricultural buildings and gable end walls (where appropriate).

For Tawny Owls, the preferred habitat locations are woodland areas or mixed farmland.

Positioning Height

Positioning Height

The best height to position the nest box is between 10ft to 14ft. Make sure the box is positioned securely and out of reach of people and grazing animals.

With the porch fixed around the entrance hole, the box can face any direction while offering protection from wind and rain. Boxes without a porch allow driving rain and wind to enter.

The nest box and entrance should be visible from a distance so Tawny Owls can locate it. It is beneficial to position the box close to a branch, helping owlets branch out safely and return to the nest. Ensure foliage does not obscure the entrance. Your nest box acts like a natural tree hollow, so make its presence visible for best results.

Dangers to take into account

Dangers to take into account

To protect your nest box project, consider dangers such as busy roads and railway lines. Traffic can kill owls, so position the box well away from these hazards. Be aware of domestic pets. If installing in a residential garden, please call for advice before purchasing.

The fixing bracket is already fitted to the nest box when it arrives. The entrance porch, instructions and fixings are supplied inside the box. To access, unclip the 5 lynch pins on the roof. If you need help, we are a phone call away.

Nest boxes can be collected from the Centre to save on delivery charges. Please call 01452 383999 to arrange.

Please supply a contact telephone number when ordering, as this helps the courier locate rural properties if needed.

If you need to contact us, you may do so at any time. We operate a 24hr Rescue Centre. For office enquiries, 9am–9pm is best.
